About

Image of photographer reflected in mirrorPlant Nerd

I wish I had studied botany from the start, but I had a long path through biotech and software and dabbling with cut-flower farming before finding my niche as a Small-Space Garden and Container Designer.

I’m never bored with plants; there is always something new to learn, from classification and plant names to plant-physiology and phyto-remediation.  I’m currently obsessed with drought-tolerant gardening and how to have a fantastic, colorful summer garden without watering it at all throughout our dry Pacific Northwest summers, and yet have the plants survive our 48 inches of endless winter rain.

Publications

I’m proud to have my writing and photography included in the following magazines:

  • American Gardener
  • Edible Seattle
  • Hobby Farms
  • RHS’ The Garden

Over-educated

In addition to my degree in biochemistry, I hold certificates in Permaculture Design, Small-Farming and Ranching, and have completed the Pro-Hort Master Pruning course.

Not just a pretty face

I’m  available for freelance writing assignments in Organic Certification documentation, FDA compliance documentation, Tissue-Culture and Laboratory protocol documentation, Copywriting, WordPress-wizardry, editorial work and freelance photography, in addition to small-space garden design and seasonal container installation and maintenance.
